Lighthouse Festival: India’s first lighthouse festival begins in Goa; 75 historical sites will be highlighted to be developed as major tourist destinations.

Trending News Fox, Entertainment News Desk, Panaji (Goa), Sep 23: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday inaugurated the first edition of the Indian Lighthouse Festival at the historic Fort Aguada here and said the objective of the festival is to transform historic lighthouses as tourist attractions with public-private partnership. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and AYUSH, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal is going to inaugurate India’s first Lighthouse Festival from Fort Aguada Lighthouse in Panaji, Goa tomorrow.

Lighthouse Festival: The three-day festival, starting from September 23 till September 25, will be celebrated across all lighthouses in the country in an effort to transform these historical places into tourist destinations.

The inaugural session will also be attended by the Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Tourism, Shri Shripad Naik as well as the Tourism Minister of Goa, Shri Rohan Khaunte.

Mr Sonowal had earlier launched the ‘Lighthouse Heritage Tourism’ campaign to convert 75 historic lighthouses into tourist destinations. Historic lighthouses are being renovated with adequate facilities to function as tourist destinations.

The festival is a logical outcome of the campaign by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MOPSW) to convert 75 historic lighthouses across India into tourist destinations. This is in line with the visionary vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to transform India’s iconic lighthouses into picturesque tourist destinations.

The initiative aims to showcase the rich culture, importance and charm of these magnificent structures, thereby promoting tourism potential and powering the local economy.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said, “It is a moment of great joy for everyone in the team of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways as we launch this historic lighthouse festival across the country from tomorrow.

Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, we are committed to nation-building. Lighthouses, which were long ignored from any potential value creation beyond their role as navigational tools, were identified by Prime Minister Narendra Modiji to develop from a tourism perspective and allow them to become the pivot of local tourism.

And also, generate income for the country. Modi ji shared this vision with all of us during the 75th episode of Mann Ki Baat and we are happy that this wonderful idea has now become a reality. While ships are guided by these lighthouses for safe sailing, they will now provide solace to people to enjoy the spectacular beauty of nature.

India’s first Lighthouse Festival will be held at the historic Fort Aguada, Goa from September 23-25, 2023. It will be a three-day grand event in carnival style featuring local artists, dance troupes, food and culinary stalls, music concerts and the like.
