A seven-member inter-ministerial team from the Center on Wednesday visited the flood-hit areas of Punjab’s Jalandhar and Rupnagar districts to assess the damage.

The team led by Ravinesh Kumar, Financial Advisor, National Disaster Management Authority visited the flood-affected areas of Mohali, Patiala and Sangrur districts on Tuesday.

Several parts of Punjab were affected by heavy rains in the state between July 9 and 11, inundating agricultural fields and large parts of other areas, throwing life out of gear.

Punjab floods: At least 41 people have died in the recent devastating floods in Punjab while 1,616 people are still living in 173 relief camps, officials said on Tuesday.

Nineteen districts – Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Kapurthala, Patiala, Moga, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar, Jalandhar, Sangrur, SBS Nagar, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Mansa, Bathinda and Pathankot – were affected. flood.

The government and rescue agencies rescued 27,286 people from waterlogged areas, officials said.

According to the report of the Revenue Department, 41 people died due to the flood.

Several districts of Punjab and Haryana have been affected by the recent heavy rains, throwing daily life out of gear and inundating large tracts of residential and agricultural land.

Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh said that power supply has been restored at all the 595 places affected by the floods.

He said that Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, Patiala and Sangrur are the worst-affected districts and the floods have caused significant damage to the infrastructure of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).

“The damage to infrastructure has had a significant impact on power supply in the affected areas, affecting essential services. PSPCL task forces worked round-the-clock to restore power supply in the affected areas,” the minister said.

He said that PSPCL officials have outlined their priorities for restoring power by giving top priority to critical infrastructure like hospitals, medical facilities, telecom and water supply.

The Minister said that PSPCL suffered an estimated loss of ₹16 crore in the form of infrastructure damage.

Singh said the damage included uprooted poles, damaged transformers and flooded substations, which damaged equipment and power lines.

As many as 20 66 KV substations were submerged across the state, causing severe damage to infrastructure.
