Vaikuntha Ekadashi: A Day of Divine Connection and Spiritual Bliss
Today, devotees across the globe are celebrating Vaikuntha Ekadashi. It is one of the most auspicious and sacred days in the Hindu calendar. Vaikuntha Ekadashi occurs on the 11th day of the waxing phase of the lunar fortnight. This happens in the month of Margashirsha (December–January). It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver and protector in the Hindu trinity.
This special Ekadashi is revered as the gateway to Vaikuntha. It is the divine abode of Lord Vishnu which is believed to open on this day. Devotees seek spiritual liberation by observing fasts, chanting prayers, and visiting temples. Observing Vaikuntha Ekadashi with devotion aids in attaining Moksha. Moksha is liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Rituals and Celebrations
The day begins with an early morning ritual bath, followed by prayers and Vrat (fasting). Devotees abstain from grains and certain foods, dedicating their time to meditating on Lord Vishnu’s glory. Special pujas and discourses on the Vishnu Purana and Bhagavad Gita are organized at temples and homes.
The grandeur of the celebration is most notable at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam. It is also notable at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati. At these temples, the “Vaikuntha Dwaram” (gateway to Vaikuntha) is opened for devotees. Thousands gather to pass through this sacred gateway, symbolizing their journey to salvation.
Significance in Spiritual Practice
Vaikuntha Ekadashi emphasizes the importance of devotion, self-control, and surrender to the divine. Devotees believe that by abstaining from material pleasures, they can focus on spiritual growth. This process helps them cleanse their minds and souls. It paves the way for inner peace and divine blessings.
This year’s Vaikuntha Ekadashi is uniquely significant. It inspires people to think on their spiritual journey. It also encourages a deep connection with their inner selves amidst the hustle of daily life.
This auspicious day bring peace, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment to all. Om Namo Narayanaya!
